Patients with breast implants should not wait until there is a problem to schedule an evaluation.
In general, patients with silicone breast implants may be advised to have imaging several years after surgery and then continue monitoring periodically. The exact timing depends on the implant type, patient history, symptoms, and the surgeon’s recommendation.
A good rule of thumb is this:
If your implants are more than 5 years old, or if you have never had them checked, it may be time to schedule an evaluation.
If your implants are 10 years or older, a consultation becomes even more important, especially if you are experiencing discomfort, firmness, changes in shape, or aesthetic concerns.
