Breast Augmentation Q&A with Dr. Mario Samaha
Breast augmentation is one of the most requested cosmetic procedures at La Clinique Privée Miami — and with good reason. Whether you’re seeking enhanced volume, better symmetry, or a confidence boost, modern breast augmentation techniques can deliver natural, beautiful results tailored to your body.
In this post, we’ll walk you through the essentials of breast augmentation, how we achieve subtle and refined outcomes, and share expert answers from our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Mario Samaha, based on his recent Q&A session with our community.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation (also known as augmentation mammoplasty) involves enhancing the size and shape of the breasts using implants or fat transfer. This procedure can:
Restore volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging
Improve breast symmetry
Help achieve a desired aesthetic or body proportion
At La Clinique Privée, we offer both silicone and saline implants, as well as fat transfer options for those seeking a subtler enhancement without foreign material.
Achieving Natural-Looking Results
Natural results come down to experience, planning, and attention to detail. Our approach includes:
Choosing the right implant size, shape, and profile for your body type
Placing the implant in the optimal position, often under the muscle for a more natural slope
Meticulous surgical technique to minimize scarring and recovery time
Optional technologies like the internal bra for added support in select cases
We take time to understand your goals during the consultation and develop a plan that works with your anatomy and lifestyle.
Dr. Mario Samaha Answers Your Breast Augmentation Questions
During a recent Q&A, Dr. Mario Samaha addressed common questions we receive from patients. Here’s what he had to say:
1. How long after pregnancy and breastfeeding can someone consider breast augmentation?
It’s safest to wait at least 3 to 6 months after breastfeeding has stopped, ensuring that the breasts have stabilized in size and hormonal changes have leveled. This helps us plan more accurately and deliver lasting results.
2. Is it possible to add fat transfer to the breasts if I already have implants?
Yes! Fat transfer can enhance cleavage and improve upper pole fullness, giving a softer and more natural contour around existing implants.
3. Do you offer payment plans?
We do! Visit our financing page for details, and please discuss financing options during your consultation with our patient coordinator.
4. Do you do fat transfer to the breasts if the patient doesn’t want implants?
Yes. Fat transfer is an option, though less consistent than implants. It’s ideal for small-volume enhancement (about half a cup at a time) and may require multiple sessions to achieve your desired result. Not everyone is a candidate, so an in-depth consultation is essential.
5. When performing a breast reduction, do you create the 'lollipop' scar or the 'inverted T' scar?
We typically use the inverted T scar, which allows for more precise shaping and volume reduction in most cases.
6. Do you do over-the-muscle augmentation?
In most cases, we place the implant under the muscle for a natural look.
However, over-the-muscle (under the fascia) may be considered in select patients — for example, high-level athletes who need greater muscle control.
7. Do you use an internal bra?
Yes, when necessary. The internal bra technique is often used in revision surgeries or patients with poor skin quality to provide extra support and longevity.
8. Do you work with Motiva implants?
Absolutely. Motiva implants are only available to board-certified plastic surgeons and are known for their safety, softness, and long-term performance.
9. Do you do breast reductions, and where are the incisions placed?
Yes, breast reduction is a common procedure at our clinic. The incision pattern is usually represented by dotted lines — around the areola, vertically down to the breast fold, and sometimes along the crease.
10. What if your nipples are large?
That’s a good indication to use a periareolar incision (around the nipple) during augmentation, which allows us to reduce the diameter of the areola at the same time.
11. If I’m replacing my implants, where would the scar be?
We usually go through the same incision you already have, minimizing additional scarring.
12. Can you do breast augmentation without visible scars, like through the armpit?
Every incision leaves a scar, but we offer several discreet options:
Under the breast (inframammary)
Around the areola
Through the armpit (transaxillary)
Each has pros and cons, and we’ll recommend what’s best for you.
13. Is a 3.2 cm incision too big? Can you go smaller?
The average breast augmentation incision is 5–6 cm. While we can go smaller with saline implants, silicone implants need more space to be placed safely and without damage.
14. Why is the under-breast incision preferred over the areola?
The inframammary incision is preferred because it offers:
Lower risk of nipple sensation changes
Lower risk of bacterial contamination (and capsular contracture)
Better control of implant placement
Minimal impact on future breastfeeding
